Union of the Baltic cities (UBC)

Klaipėda became a member of the organization in 1991. The Union of the Baltic Cities (UBC) is a leading network uniting cities from the Baltic Sea region, with more than 100 members from Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, and Sweden. UBC members work together to promote sustainable urban development, improve quality of life, and strengthen economic cooperation. Founded in 1991 in Gdańsk, the organization operates in 8 key areas through established Commissions: Cultural Cities, Inclusive and Healthy Cities, Learning Cities, Planning Cities, Safe Cities, Smart and Prospering Cities, Sustainable Cities, and Youthful Cities.

UBC organizes a variety of projects, conferences, and seminars that foster the exchange of best practices, innovation, and urban policy development. The organization also emphasizes the importance of environmental protection, social inclusion, and cultural cooperation.

European cities against drugs (ECAD)

Klaipėda became a member of the organization in 1997. European Cities Against Drugs (ECAD) is an international organization dedicated to addressing drug-related issues in European cities. Established in 1994, ECAD brings together cities committed to sharing experiences, best practices, and solutions related to drug prevention and addiction treatment.

The organization’s goal is to reduce drug use and associated challenges through evidence-based research and community involvement. ECAD organizes conferences, seminars, and other events that encourage collaboration among cities, government authorities, non-governmental organizations, and specialists.

Local Authorities International Environmental Organisation „Kommunenes Internasjonale Miljøorganisasjon" (KIMO)

Klaipėda became a member of the organization in 2005. KIMO is an international organization established to promote cooperation among maritime regions and support sustainable development in the Baltic Sea region. Comprising 11 member countries, KIMO works to improve marine policies and address environmental challenges affecting the region.

The organization focuses on marine environmental protection, sustainable resource use, and the development of efficient transportation systems. KIMO organizes various projects and initiatives that foster collaboration among countries, cities, and local communities.

World health organisation (WHO) European Healthy Cities Network

Klaipėda became a member of the WHO European Healthy Cities Network in 2010 and was the first city in Lithuania to join this initiative. The European Healthy Cities Network is an international initiative aimed at promoting health and well-being in cities. Founded in 1988, this network unites cities dedicated to improving residents' health and quality of life through sustainable policies and practices.

Network members share best practices, implement innovative health programs, and collaborate with local communities to address pressing issues such as chronic diseases, mental health, environmental concerns, and social inclusion.

Eurocities

Klaipėda became an associate partner of the organization in 2002 and participates in activities related to economic development. Eurocities is a network of European cities aimed at strengthening cooperation among major cities and promoting urban policies. Established in 1986, Eurocities connects more than 190 cities across 38 countries, representing over 130 million residents. The organization seeks to share best practices, address common challenges, and amplify the voice of cities at the European level.

Through various programs and projects, Eurocities promotes innovation, sustainability, social inclusion, and economic development. Cities can participate in events, share knowledge, and establish new partnerships to address contemporary challenges.

The League of Historical Cities

Klaipėda became a member of the organization in 2017. The League of Historical Cities is an international organization dedicated to supporting and promoting the preservation and development of historical cities, their cultural heritage, and traditions. Founded in 1993, the League unites cities with a shared interest in protecting their history and culture while fostering sustainable development.

The organization encourages members to share best practices and organizes conferences, seminars, and projects focused on heritage preservation, urban renewal, and tourism development. It also aims to raise awareness of the importance of historical cities and their contributions to regional and national culture.

Cruise Baltic

The city of Klaipėda became a member of the Cruise Baltic association in 2011. Cruise Baltic is a regional organization founded to promote cruise tourism in the Baltic Sea region. Since 2000, it has connected ports, cities, and cruise operators to foster collaboration and enhance service quality.

The organization’s goal is to increase the Baltic Sea’s appeal as a cruise destination by offering tourists unique experiences and opportunities to explore the region’s culture, nature, and history. Cruise Baltic organizes seminars, exhibitions, and other events involving cruise industry representatives to share best practices and innovations.

Baltic Sail

Klaipėda has been a member of the Baltic Sail association since 2008. Baltic Sail is an international organization founded to promote maritime culture and traditions in the Baltic Sea. Established in 1991, the organization brings together cities, ports, and maritime enthusiasts who collaborate to host events, regattas, and festivals that highlight the region’s historical maritime heritage and promote ecological awareness.

Baltic Sail fosters cooperation among Baltic Sea region countries, organizing ship parades, yacht races, and educational programs that support maritime culture and environmental stewardship. The association also encourages camaraderie among cities and ports, contributing to sustainable development and tourism promotion.

The association’s goal is to support traditional sailing as part of Europe’s maritime cultural heritage and encourage owners of traditional sailing ships to journey through the Baltic Sea, visiting ports of association members.

Baltic Sail member cities include: Klaipėda (Lithuania), Karlskrona (Sweden), Rostock and Sassnitz (Germany), Gdańsk (Poland), Turku (Finland), Nysted (Denmark), and Riga (Latvia).
