Køge is a charming port city located on the island of Zealand in eastern Denmark, 39 km southwest of Copenhagen. With a population of 38,000, Køge was first mentioned in 1288 and has since become an important regional center.
The city has a diverse industrial sector, including rubber, paint, chemical, and wood industries. Køge's historic center is one of the main tourist attractions, featuring distinctive architecture and historical significance.
Køge boasts Denmark's oldest half-timbered house, built in 1527. Next to this house stands St. Nicholas Church, whose tower hosts Denmark's first lighthouse. The Køge Town Hall, dating back to 1552, is the oldest still functioning town hall in Denmark. Additionally, near the city lies the third-largest Viking ring fortress, adding even more historical charm to this beautiful city.
